How to Create Your Perfect Wedding Playlists

Friday, January 1st, 2021

There’s no denying it – music matters! The type of music you play at your wedding can help solidify your overall theme, as well as convey added emotion on, let’s face it, one of the most emotional days of your life! That’s why we are here to help you choose your perfect wedding playlists! If you’re anything like us, you have those sweet songs that bring back all the relationship feels, and then those jams you KNOW will get your friends moving and grooving on the dance floor. There is a time and a place for both on your wedding day – after all, the party doesn’t stop! From the ceremony to the ultimate dance party, having playlists for each part of the evening can ensure that your guests are mixing and mingling to those tracks that pull at your heartstrings (or make you grab another drink from the bar!). Every couple’s wedding day soundtrack should be unique, and we have some tips for you on how to make that possible.

How to Create Your Perfect Wedding Playlists

1. Make Different Playlists for Parts of the Day & Night

Now, this is the fun part! From waking up and realizing the day has FINALLY come, to mimosas with your besties and the elaborate getting ready routine…you get to decide what vibe you’re going for. Is it the ultimate hype playlist with high-energy hits to elevate the mood, those throwback jams you wouldn’t dare miss a word to after endless car singalongs with your friends OR delicate hymns that allow for a little calm before the storm? That’s up to you! There are other parts of the day that deserve some well-thought-out music, such as:

  • Arrival of Guests
  • Ceremony Time (including processional and recessional)
  • Cocktail Hour
  • Reception Entrance
  • Dinner
  • First Dances
  • Party Music
  • The Send-Off!

When picking out this background music for the big day, it’s important to curate something that matches you and your significant other, but also fits the mood of the evening. Chances are, romantic love songs will be the move for most, but there’s always room to get creative. With the mood shift after “I do,” your guests are going to be ready to celebrate the sweet matrimony with a little bit of dancing, fingers crossed! We know couples want all of their guests to be engaged in the music selection, from your Uncle Kirk to your TikTok obsessed cousin, so curating a party playlist with multiple genres will ensure everyone gets a chance to scream Mama Mia and do the Renegade dance. Want to use similar songs for different parts of the day? We feel you! Our tip is to create a playlist, throw all your faves in there and hit shuffle!

2. Check out our Playlists

Having trouble creating your own or in search of a little inspiration? Check out our curated playlists on Wed Society! With options from top-entertainment vendors and our own music-loving team members, here you will find a wide variety of selections that are sure to appeal to every couple’s taste! Not into the cheesy love songs that you hear on repeat 24/7? We have you covered with some more obscure tunes you likely won’t find on the radio.

Check out one of our faves:

3. How your DJ or Band can help!

We know there’s nothing like a live band or DJ to connect with your guests at your wedding! You can still communicate with your entertainment pro if there is a certain song you would like played or even EDITED to best fit the current moment! Don’t be afraid to be specific and tell your DJ/Band what NOT to play. Remember, your entertainment vendor is there to help curate and deliver the music you and your guests will enjoy! If you are making the transition from your fave hits to the classics that the whole family will enjoy, be sure you’re on the same page with your vendor on when to flip the switch.

Each wedding requires an enormous amount of creativity to ensure the day perfectly reflects the happy couple. Wedding music is no different! While there are thousands of romantic songs to sway with, classics to scream along to  and popular tunes with 15-second dances attached, think about what soundtrack will best tell your love story. Be sure to follow along with us on Spotify for even more specifically curated playlists that cater to this exciting season of engagement!

Moving Beyond Words to Action

Moving beyond words to action

Our hearts are heavy. In recent days, we have spoken to express our outrage against acts of racism and our support for the Black community. We continue to grieve so many Black lives that have been unjustly lost. We have been listening and learning, and fully understand that actions, not words, drive change. Our company has been working purposefully to make changes both behind the scenes and public-facing, but we know that we can do more. To that end, we feel an immense responsibility as a media brand to ensure that we adopt more inclusive practices and are intentional about showcasing people of color as we celebrate love through weddings.

What began as an effort to speak out against racism and injustice became a soul-searching mission to better understand how we can take action within our own organization to address systemic race-related issues. An extremely tough order and it would be naive to believe that one organization can change the world (or even a single community), but it’s the collective actions from many organizations that will drive positive social change. We want to be part of that change.

We’re committed as a brand to becoming a place where all people feel a sense of belonging and connection. We’re such a beautifully diverse community, and we believe that ALL love is worthy. We have failed couples actively planning who were looking to hire Black vendors or shop at minority-owned businesses. Others did not see themselves represented enough across our platforms. The signals that we sent as a result of our failure to focus more attention on people of color had unintended and alienating consequences and for that, we are very sorry. We know that an intentional and ongoing focus on diversity and inclusion will aid us tremendously moving forward.

Here’s our pledge to you:

  1. We vow to publish more racially-diverse content on an ongoing basis and conduct regular reviews to ensure it truly reflects diversity including but not limited to race, sexuality and religion.
  2. We vow to partner with more ethnically-diverse vendors and minority-owned businesses and deepen our connection with those existing partners.
  1. We vow to continue to listen and use our voice to influence positive social change through thoughtful and respectful content.

The results of our actions won’t be seen overnight, but we promise to uphold these 3 tenants. Furthermore, we will continue to identify many more actionable ways we can improve and promise to continue to use what influence we have for what is good, right and just. Thank you for your support.

Punchy Blooms and a Modern Altar Make This Shoot a Must-See!

Thursday, April 9th, 2020

This inspiration shoot from Julep Events blends bright colors with boho details for an energetic summer scene that we just can’t get enough of. The Schoolhouse acted as a blank space for Haute Poppies‘ punchy blooms that adorned everything from the model’s brides hair to the hexagon altar backdrop from Warehouse Rose Events. Those same fresh florals were seen poised along the side of white wedding cake by Sugar Bee Sweets Bakery as if they were growing up around the dessert, and were even illustrated on the invitation suite by Brown Fox Creative. As for the bridal babe, she wore an elegant, lacy gown from Grace Loves Lace that was complemented with a bold and girlie beauty look with mega curls by WZ Beauty Studio. All the while, her model groom was dapper in a whimsical floral tie and citrus-hued boutonniere. Check out all of the refreshing details captured by Sami Kathryn Photography below!

From the planner, Ginny Greene of Julep Events: “I was inspired by the idea of doing something ‘minimalist boho’ — a simpler take on the bright, vibrant aesthetics that you typically associate with the boho wedding. As a vendor team, we knew we wanted flowers to play a huge role in the design, and the brighter the better! We wanted this shoot to be clean and simple, but also full of joy, fun and love — because that’s what the wedding day should be all about!”

Black, White and Neutral: How to Mix Modern Design with Traditional Details

Monday, March 9th, 2020

This black and white love affair captured by Laning Photography is anything but boring! Modern floral and striking details are infused in this inspiration shoot from Dr. Delphinium Designs & Events. Butterfly Cakery‘s abstract, moody cake provided the perfect dramatic focal point for the scene at The Cliff HousePOSH Couture Rentals blew us away with the sophisticated selection of dinnerware that included matte black flatware and gray granite-like chargers. The invitation suite and paperie from Ladybird Paper Co. followed the trend of a modern-day elegance with a subtle blush pink to convey the romance of the event. The model bride was totally in her element with a delicate, beaded-bodice gown from Stanley Korshak Bridal Salon, and a statement hair clip that was used to push back those luscious waves created by Styles by Vero. Her makeup also looked glamorous with a muted brown lip color and a shimmery gold eyeshadow. Be sure to watch the behind the scenes video from Lorena Burns Photography and Films who filmed all the black, white and neutral details for our inspiration. Cheers!

From the planners, Shelby Viator and Abby Hampton from Dr. Delphinium Designs & Events: “Our inspiration came from the idea of a sophisticated event infused with a modern garden experience in a seemingly casual setting. We chose a traditional black and white theme then enhanced it with subtle spring colors and acrylic elements for an unconventional display.”

The table was set with only the best dining arrangements that included glamorous gold, ceramic chargers with coordinating flatware from Belle Decor topped with dusty lavender napkins from AM Linen RentalButterfly Cakery designed the most darling cake iced in floral buttercream details. This scene is full of fresh, modern fall wedding inspiration that has us totally smitten! From the planner, Alexa Kay of Alexa Kay Events: “Warm meets cool in this vivid fall wedding inspiration. Fall brings about the most beautiful colors, so it only makes sense to bring out the best of the time of year with such an inviting palette. Incorporating a lot of color can be intimidating, but when done right (like this!) it’s so, so pretty! While I love neutrals, I’m loving that more people are designing their weddings around a variety of color.”
