Building the Dream Team

For some brides, choosing a team of vendors for your wedding can be a breeze while others search and search for months. Matching up church availability with venue availability, and photographer availability can take time. Be patient and go with your gut, does the venue match your aesthetic, does the vendor respond to you in a timely manor, were they easy to talk to? You are building your “dream team” of vendors. Don’t be afraid to ask other vendors about one another, especially if you have some questionable feelings. Another valuable resource is wedding blogs or your own vendor’s blogs. Check in on them and see the other vendors they have worked with before. It can be a real time saver.

Read your Contract

I know it sounds like a no-brainer but I always find it worth mentioning, READ YOUR CONTRACT. Shopping for a venue for your wedding date is no easy task. No two venues are the same and pricing can be tricky depending on what is included. Tables, chairs, linens, lighting, ice, rentals, the list goes on and on. While shopping around things can get confusing when you are overwhelmed and newly engaged. Some venues offer in house catering, Hickory Street Annex has six off site caterers that you must choose from. My biggest tip to our brides is to give each caterer a call and get a quote. The quote is going to tell you a lot, from rentals, food and staff. Of course numbers can change depending on details like head count, and food selections. To avoid any “hidden fees” I always tell brides to carefully read their contract. No one wants last minute surprises especially on the wedding day.

How far out should I book my venue?

Well that depends on how set you are on a particular date? We typically book out our dates about a year in advance or as much as 18 months in advance. April, May, September and October tend to book out the fastest. But if you are flexible to a Friday or Sunday wedding the availability might be likely. We keep our calendar live on line. But always check in with the venue for a particular date to be 100%  sure.
