Modern Southern Belle

Hair & Makeup by Grand Slam Glam

What hairstyle do you recommend pairing with a plunging neckline?

We love the ‘modern southern belle.’ Like many proper southern ladies would agree, volume at the roots of any style is key.

What products did you use to achieve this hairstyle?

Before using heat on the hair, we applied Fave 4’s Vertical Volume spray at the roots and Texture Takeover throughout. We created the volume in the roots by using hot rollers and letting them cool as we completed her makeup look. Thats right… old school hot rollers! However, a complete set of pin curls using a curling iron would work just fine. After pulling the curls down, we created a straight middle part and smoothed the flyaways down with a comb and Kenra Professional Platinum Texturizing Taffy 13. We then took the desired front section of the hair and separated it from the rest. Using an alligator clip, we clipped the rest of the hair up and tied the two smooth front sections together at the nape of the neck with a clear rubber band, making sure the ears were covered. Then letting the rest of the curls down, we teased the remaining section of the hair at the roots, ran fingers through the bottom of the curls, and sprayed all over with Kenra Professional Super Hold Volume Spray 25 for the perfectly sleek and tousled down-do.”

What makeup products were used?

For this makeup look, we wanted to combine soft and dramatic elements to create a new take on two classic bridal looks in one. We kept the face makeup soft and dewy by prepping the skin with rose water and a shimmering primer. Next, a light and even coat of hydrating hand-applied foundation and concealer were buffed into the skin using a damp beauty blender. We set this with a setting spray and a light dusting of translucent powder all over. We kept the contour soft and dispersed by using a larger powder brush, rosey blush and a warm bronzer. Using the Jaclyn Hill Morphe palette, we created a dusty pink eyeshadow base and gradually pulled different tones of browns into the crease of the eye, focusing the darkest hues toward the outside corners. To keep the eye bright and open, we used a rose-gold shimmer in the inner corners. The eyeliner in this look is what truly sets it apart. After applying false lashes, tight line the eyes with a dark charcoal liner. Follow the lash line with a liquid liner on the top of the eye and gradually thinker the line towards the outer corner. We went in with a thin angled brush and a mixture of matte black and dark brown shadows to smoke out the line and create the soft winged cat-eye effect.

Neckline Style: Off-the-Shoulder

Matty by Matthew Christopher gown from LeAnn’s Bridal

What do you love about this trending neckline?

I am obsessed with the off-the-shoulder trend. This look is so feminine, fun, flirty and elegant. There are so many different ways that you can wear this look. I love that you can always add a detachable off-the-shoulder strap to a dress. Walk down the aisle with one look and take the straps off for another look during the reception.”

What other trends are you loving right now?

I am loving all of the clean dresses right now, like Boady by Wtoo. I am an accessories girl and you can do so much with a clean dress. You can add a gorgeous sash, wear fabulous chandelier earrings, an amazing statement necklace, or my fave – some over the top heels. Let’s not forget about the veil. When you have a classic clean dress, you have so many options on a veil – beaded, lace, ribbon, cut edge… options are endless!
