Courtney Skallerup and Deejay Wilde’s Elegant Ranch Wedding by Jen Rios Weddings
PERFECT PROPOSAL: As a couple, Courtney and Dee Jay decided that they wanted to take a trip to a new city every year. Dee Jay had never been to Chicago, so they booked a trip around Courtney’s birthday. The proposal essentially began at the Field Museum where the couple took a walk alongside Lake Michigan. As they were walking, they came upon Buckingham Fountain, where they took a few pictures. Dee Jay asked a woman walking nearby to take a picture of them, and after taking one or two, he kneeled down and pulled the most beautiful ring out of his pocket.
THE SETTING: Dee Jay is from West Texas, so it was important to Courtney to have a wide-open space that incorporated his farming roots into the wedding. He also loves hunting, which resonated well with barn’s theme, featuring taxidermy deer, moose and bears all throughout. Classic Oaks Ranch was also convenient for their guests to stay in Fort Worth and enjoy Sundance Square and the Stockyards.
HUES SHE USED: Courtney’s primary colors were lavender, grey, linen, dusty rose, coral, green and gold.
SAVORY SWEETS: Courtney wanted a simple but elegant bride’s cake. She decided on a simple three-tiered cake, featuring two layers with soft details and a center layer with lace. Two layers of the cake were a peach amaretto filling with vanilla bean buttercream, and the other layer was a simple buttercream filling.
VENDOR LOVE: Jen Rios did an incredible job making Courtney’s dream wedding a reality. She took vague descriptions and images and created something amazing! Secondly, Shannon Skloss, the photographer, made everyone feel at ease, helping with small makeup emergencies and dealing with the Texas heat. Lastly, Kaleigh Simons, The Styling Stewardess owner, made the bride and bridesmaids feel absolutely beautiful and confident.
