Love Knows Best: An “Emma” Inspired Wedding Editorial

Wednesday, March 9th, 2022

Whether you are meddling in someone else’s wedding design or matchmaking your own décor, this “Emma” inspired design is one for the books! It wouldn’t be Regencycore style without a fabulous family crest motif, pastel pastries galore, and whimsical blooms covering every last vignette, and luckily Ladybird Paper Co., Katrina Makes Cakes and Camellia Farm Flora knew just how to bring this to life. An asymmetrical botanical-flanked monogram motif was worked into the invitation suite then put of full display against Satin Pavement‘s boxwood wall. Towering berry-hued floral columns served as the altar backdrop at The Bowden, then were repurposed against the boxwood wall to complete the backdrop for Katrina Makes Cakes‘ trio of pretty pastel cakes.

Our very own ‘Emma’ bride wore a button front, corset bodice ball gown with a folded sweetheart neckline in barely-there floral pattern fabric from StarDust Celebrations. Tease to Please Hair and Makeup made the brides Regency era styled hair a bit more modern by adding the cutest jeweled headband to her updo, and AshleyDrew Artistry complemented the look with a natural, glowy makeup look and soft pink eyes and lips.

Keep scrolling to see all the beauty from this “Emma” inspired design captured in photo and film by Pharris Photos + Films. Cheers to happiness together!

From the hairstylist, Breanna with Tease to Please Hair and Makeup: “1800s meets modern was the inspiration behind this gorgeous updo. This Regency-era hairstyle is a go-to in period pieces, but I wanted to make it feel like it could be worn on today’s bride. Aubrey had the perfect natural curls to make this look even better! The natural texture made this high bun look effortless and romantic and even had me swooning over how stunning it was. Top it off with the perfect hair accessory and soft ringlets coming down to frame the face that give those signature bridal touches.”

Wedding Trend: Festive Invitations Inspired by Unique Elements

Monday, March 7th, 2022

Curating a celebration in your element takes some serious attention to detail and these Dallas stationers do just that – showcasing some of their most sought-after festive invitations designed with exquisite elements that will take your save-the-date experience to the next level. Your wedding invitations communicate so much more than the where-and-when details of your big day! Quite possibly the most important pieces of mail you’ll ever send, their design sets the tone for the ambiance of your entire wedding and shows off your personality as a couple – all wrapped up in a pretty little invitation suite! Chua Lee Photography captured all the best shots of this pretty paperie filled with luxe wedding elements that set each suite apart. See them all shot around Hidden Pines | Highland Village down below, and don’t forget to save your favorite set for inspo. Cheers!

Chinoiserie wedding invitations

wedding invitations

The Element: Chinoiserie

Designed by Illustrated Weddings by Lola Lorena

From Yvette with Illustrated Weddings by Lola Lorena: “Gorgeous chinoiserie is the inspiration for this wedding invitation suite. The blue and white motif evokes a traditional vibe, while the hand-drawn elements bring a modern custom touch. The key to pulling off this trend is a bride who loves mixing patterns and has a playful sense of style. This suite will set the tone for the event from the moment guests open their invitation.”

wedding invitations

Linen & Rope monogram wedding invitation

The Elements: Linen & Rope

Designed by Hazelwood Paper Co.

From Kristin with Hazelwood Paper Co.: “This suite was designed for a Texan bride with a love of details and texture, quality pieces, yet approachable. The wedding took place at her family’s private ranch, under a tent at sunset. The invitation was wrapped in linen, with the couple’s monogram on the back. It was embellished with rope as a nod to their ranch lifestyle. The entire suite was letterpress printed and guests received it via a box instead of a traditional envelope.”

wedding invitations

citrus illustration invitation

The Element: Gold Foil

Designed by Bethany’s Letter Shop

From Bethany with Bethany’s Letter Shop: “My inspiration all stemmed from a photo of a wedding cake I found. It had dried citrus all over it, which you would think would have a summertime feel, but instead, it was so warm and fall-like! I immediately knew I wanted to illustrate citrus fruits that held these fall-like colors and had gold foil accents. Everything else after that just sort of fell into place! I’m all about fun illustrations these days, and I think this suite shows that off really well.”

invitations with bumblebees

The Element: Bumblebees

Designed by Ladybird Paper Co.

From Alexandra with Ladybird Paper Co.: “This suite is for the nature-lover who wants to combine elegance and whimsy into their wedding invitations. The custom sketched bumblebees and floral wax seal are a nod to her love of nature, and the soft colors and fine lines and fonts give a sense of elegance.”

acrylic wedding invitations

Dallas wedding invitations

The Element: Acrylic

Designed by MK Event Boutique

From Hannah with MK Event Boutique: “Typically when thinking of anything acrylic, your brain automatically goes to ‘modern’ but I definitely think acrylic invitations can still go many different ways depending on the bride’s aesthetic and design. Although still modern with the custom monogram, we decided to add more of a traditional touch to the invitation suite, too, with the black and white color scheme and the wax seal with the custom monogram. The thin and dainty ribbon also softens the acrylic and adds more of a romantic feel. You can always guarantee that when your guests receive an acrylic invitation suite in their mailbox, they will be wowed!”

Velvet and vellum wedding invitations

Dallas wedding invitations

The Elements: Velvet & Vellum

Designed by Ellis Paige Calligraphy & Design

From Kendall with Ellis Paige Calligraphy & Design: “I love when a bride gives me a specific design element to work with when designing their invitation suite. It challenges me to be creative and think out of the box to create something unique that they will love! For this suite, I used velvet and vellum details to create a soft and airy design. Incorporating extra elements such as envelope liners, vellum wraps, wax seals, and ribbon can take any invitation suite to the next level!”

This Couple’s Pup Tagged Along for their Sunkissed Dallas Engagement Session

Friday, March 4th, 2022

Natalie and Jake make the cutest couple, and with their puppy Levi along for the ride, they snapped some sweet shots in this sunkissed Dallas engagement session captured by Sarah Blaze Photography. White Rock Lake made for a romantic and natural backdrop where the two danced and stole kisses, surrounded by foliage and dreamy falll lighting. Natalie Jacobson and Jake Anderson first met through mutual friends in Celina, Texas which happened to be where both their parents live. He proposed to her on the sandy beach of Turks and Caicos Islands in a beautiful moment where Natalie says she felt blessed above all. The two will be tying the knot in a black, white and champagne wedding at Mae’s Ridge just outside of Austin, where they say the location and landscaping of the venue are their favorite part of the upcoming event! Read on for a brief note from their photographer about this dreamy Dallas engagement session and the beautiful photos that came from it. Cheers to the soon-to-be Andersons!

From the photographer, Sarah Blaze Photography: “Natalie and Jake live in Dallas and will be getting married in Austin in 2022! They wanted to include their new puppy Levi in the images as well!”

Rose and Matt Allen’s Colorful Downtown Dallas Engagement Session

Tuesday, March 1st, 2022

Documenting some of their most joyful, loving moments, this downtown Dallas engagement session captured by Mark and Emily Photography was the perfect way for Rose and Matt to announce their soon-to-be marriage. Accompanied by their dog, love-centered shots showing off their fun-loving sides were snapped to remember this special season of life they entered as two and will leave as one. The pair met on a number of occasions through mutual friends over the course of a few years. Each says they always felt sparks but never had alone time to find out if it could be something more. Finally, they arranged some time to spend one-on-one, and the two have never looked back. Timing has its own special way of being just perfect!

They happily spend as much time as they can together now that they are officially married! When Matt decided to pop the question, he planned with Rose’s mom and coordinated a parkside surprise complete with a romantic Christmas-themed set-up where he dropped to one knee and she, of course, said yes! They just tied the knot in early January of 2022 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and one of their favorite parts of the big day was how big a role their sweet pup was able to play. Her pictures were on table numbers, she was included in family photos, and wore her very own dress that matched the theme. We can’t wait to see photos of their dreamy wedding day soon, especially since its color palette promises a mood influenced by lilac, plum, antique gold, forest green, and midnight black. Read on for a note from the now-married Mrs. Allen for the full story of Matt’s proposal that led to this downtown Dallas engagement session. Cheers!

From the bride: “He coordinated with my mom, she told me that she wanted him and me to walk through a local park to take pictures for a Christmas card she was putting together. Before Matt and I went to the park, my mom and sister decorated a Christmasy looking pine tree with ornaments, my mom said “Oh look someone decorated a tree, go take a picture!” One of the ornaments said ‘Will You Marry Me’ with that day’s date (12/7/2019) and I turned to Matt to say ‘Why would someone just leave all of this here?’ That’s when I saw that he was on one knee with my ring. I was so surprised!”

How do you determine top trends for the upcoming year? Is there any resource you look at in particular?

The first resource I go to for top trends is Pantone – I always look to see what is going to be the color of the year, and then which will be the top colors for each season. Everything in the design world is focused around what colors they release. I also will look at what my favorite designers are showcasing for the new year and go off that!

How do you balance incorporating top trends into a wedding design while staying true to your couple’s style?

I like to choose a couple of areas to incorporate trending décor and blend it with a couple’s personal style, incorporating their hobbies into the location and design with top trending colors and textiles. Many times it is in the color palette or tablescape with trending vessels and popular textiles with the linens, or the photo op area that is the perfect space to go all out with. We like to balance this carefully because we want them to look at their wedding for decades to come and still be in love with it. Sometimes, you have couples that want everything that is cutting edge and trending at the moment so for them I like to use a neutral color palette to keep it timeless.

How do you balance trendy design with a timeless style any couple would look back on and love?

I recently had a bride who loved navy, polka dots and has a very classic style. We chose to use navy as the base for the color palette with pops of fall colors to warm it, plus trending colors of mustard and rust. We brought in a touch of chinoiserie in the vessels, which is timeless but has been trending as well and we used embroidered linens with a quatrefoil-like pattern to keep it a bit more modern. The blend was beautiful and she loved it! The styled shoot pictured above pulled together a focus on Pantone’s color of the year ‘Illuminating’ with muted tones and a touch of the 70s vibe you see trending with the dress style and rattan elements.

What are your favorite 2022 wedding trends?

The more intimate your guest list, the more money is allowed to be spent per person so that each has a luxurious, curated experience as well. Muted colors are also a favorite, and I love the idea of intimate ceremonies followed by an over-the-top reception!

‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’ Inspired Wedding Editorial

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2022

The Love Fern is our newest love story inspired wedding editorial, and its “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” inspirations are more than fit for a stylish, modern celebration of marriage around The Adolphus Hotel. The ever-so-talented Sarah Blaze Photography captured just the mood we would expect from the classic rom-com – casual modern romance at play surrounded by sophisticated details.

Our bride modeled a stunning silk gown from Grace Loves Lace and natural wedding glam styled by the artists at Brite Beauty to look just as chic, down-to-earth, and effortlessly elegant as Kate Hudson herself. If that iconic yellow dress and the “Isadora” diamond necklace were transformed into a bridal ensemble, this is what you’d have! A true “frost yourself” moment thanks to L’unique Diamonds and Fine Jewelry and their ultimate romcom inspiration.

Keep your best poker face at this reception table behind personalized playing card place settings by Bethany’s Letter Shop that pay homage to the boys’ night poker scene, while the bridal bouquet and florals by Paparazzi Glam & Décor Rentals were mixed in with lush greenery as a nod to the love fern Andie Anderson gifted to Benjamin Barry as a (slightly ironic) symbol of their undying romance. The peach and mustard touches continue throughout a delicately scripted invitation suite designed with a sweet illustration of Krull, their Chinese crested puppy. Delicious-looking cocktails crafted by HD Liquid Catering set the tone for a luxe epicurean experience and continued the fun with a classy champagne tower pour and a tablescape just teeming with soft, neutral décor from POSH Couture Rentals. Each guest was able to indulge their sweet tooth with a perfectly modern, square cake design by Carmel Cakery LLC trimmed with tasteful dried citrus and fresh floral details that look almost too good to eat. You can take part in “frosting yourself” from home, too! See more from this chic, cinema-inspired wedding editorial down below. Plus, keep scrolling to see it in a dreamy film highlight captured by So1Media. Cheers!

Wedding Catering Serving Options

A note from Culinary Art Catering

What should a serving process look like for a wedding? Who takes charge of that – the couple, the planner or the caterer?

The caterer definitely should take charge of this for the event. Prior to the event we would consult with the client and planner to get an overall idea of their vision, then we utilize our knowledge of event logistics to make it happen. There are times when couples have seen something on Pinterest that “looks” like a great idea; however, it isn’t necessarily a realistic way of serving a large crowd. We aren’t trying to burst anyone’s bubble. We will work with them and create even more spectacular ways to present the food! On the day of the event, our goal is to work with all the vendors to ensure a flawless event. We coordinate with the planner and the DJ to assure timing is on point and service is expedient.

What are the different catering service options for weddings?

We offer buffets, plated meals, stations and even combinations of all. This goes back to understanding the clients’ vision and developing a plan together that will deliver what they are looking for. We also take the venue, spacing, timing and number of guests into account when advising our clients on the best setups and service styles for their event.

Is bar service typically included in a catering package?

We are fully licensed by the TABC and can provide customizable bar packages to our clients. Bar services are also determined by the venue the event is being held at, as some venues provide the service in-house. Some clients choose to do BYOB for their alcohol, and this doesn’t always end up in cost savings for the client. It always tends to become a hassle for the client on the day of the event. Any savings it might equate to is overshadowed when they have to worry about purchasing, storing, transporting, and possibly running short of any of the items. We offer our bar packages to take additional stress out of the equation.

Budgeting for your Wedding Catering

A note from Texas Catering

What vendors should we plan to feed, and when?

While not all of your vendors will be able to eat at the same time during your event, you should plan to feed the ones that are onsite during dinner service. The ones we most commonly see forgotten are security and venue host or manager.

How does tipping work for wedding caterers? Who all should be tipped?

This frequently asked question is one of the harder ones to answer. Some couples choose to tip a percentage of their total catering invoice, anywhere from 10%-20%, while some choose to tip each individual server/staff member. Food is such a big part of any event and there is no wrong way to show your appreciation for a job well done.

Based on your RSVP number, how much food should you plan to order?

We always suggest ordering food for your full RSVP headcount, plus your vendors.

Ceviche Wedding Appetizer

Dive Ceviche

Striped bass marinated in lime juice, mango, cilantro, red onion, jalapeno & tomato, with house-made plantain chips from COHOST

Wedding Catering Rentals

A note from COHOST

What rentals come with the food for serving purposes?

We have a wide variety of ways to serve this dish (passed in glasses or mini spoons or bamboo disposable boats, stationary allowing the guests to make their own plates) and a wide variety of dish options.  The final presentation will depend on the client’s taste. We provide a wide variety of dinnerware options, both real and disposable.

What all is included in a wedding catering Dallas package?

So much but also as minimal as needed.  Our services often include coordination/transportation of the food from the client’s chosen restaurant; all service equipment (chafers/bowls/platters/serving utensils); staff such as servers, chefs, or bartenders; non-alcoholic beverages; bar items like ice, mixers, glassware, equipment, dinnerware; and even some additional rentals like tables, chairs, or linens.

A note from Vestals Catering

At what point in the reception should apps & dinner be served?

We usually have hors d’oeuvres ready to be passed directly following the ceremony during cocktail hour; dinner is typically after a welcome speech.

What are cocktail & beverage expectations at a wedding?

We’re seeing that many couples are opting in for an open bar and are now looking to create signature cocktails that have a meaningful tie-in to the bride and groom.

Do the bride and groom typically eat dinner at the same time as the guests?

If not, what does that process look like for them to have their meal? Couples are more often having an intimate meal at the end of cocktail hour before the reception begins.

Classic Paella wedding food

Classic Paella

All-natural chicken, Spanish chorizo, sofrito, bomba rice topped with lemon aioli from Magdalena’s

How Much Food Order Based on Guest Count

A note from Magdalena’s

How can a couple best calculate how much food to order for their event?

There are many variables to consider when calculating how much food to order for an event. You want to consider your guest count (of course), the duration of your cocktail ‘hour’, and how hungry your guests may be! Typically, we recommend beginning with a couple of appetizers per person. Appetizers are perfect for holding your guests over until dinner service, as they can be as light or heavy as you desire. The main entrée is pretty self-explanatory: you want to provide a protein, a vegetable, and a starch per plate. Kids’ meals are also something to think about providing. Finally, your guests will love you if you serve a late-night snack. Everyone could use a snack at the end of the night!

How can you meet a couple’s desire to be more sustainable with their wedding catering?

Unfortunately, weddings as a whole aren’t the most sustainable in nature, but there are ways to help decrease your wedding’s carbon footprint. Firstly, renting your china, glassware, and flatware is the most sustainable option, rather than purchasing disposable plasticware. If you prefer disposable plates, cups, and tableware, you should consider those made from bamboo or any recyclable and biodegradable material. As far as food goes, being environmentally conscious looks like arranging for any of your extra food to be sourced to local shelters or organizations. This ensures that your catering is not going to waste but is being enjoyed by those who are in need, as well as your lovely wedding guests. You can also locally source all of your ingredients that go into your wedding catering, although, keep in mind, this can be significantly more expensive.

Should vendors and children be factored into the catering order?

Yes, vendors and children should always be factored into catering, as all parties will be grateful. Vendor meals are typically included in your guest count, as there are typically anywhere from three to eight vendor meals in a wedding. Most caterers offer kids meals for children at weddings to ensure you are not overspending on adult meals that will go to waste.

Wedding Catering Tasting & Order Expectations

A note from Soulman’s Catering

What questions should a couple ask before booking a Dallas caterer?

What menu options and levels of service do you offer? Do you require any payment upfront?  If there is an unforeseen issue, what are the cancellation policies?

How far out from the wedding should you book catering for your wedding?

We say that anywhere from six months to a year is ideal.

How does a wedding menu tasting work?

First, we agree on a date for the tasting, what menu the couple is interested in, a location, and a time. When we meet to taste, we discuss all of their options and try to answer as many questions as possible so the bride and groom know what to expect. We love to help them customize their special day!

Dallas Wedding Catering Trends

A note from Gil’s Elegant Catering

What dishes and food styles are trending in weddings?

We are continuing to elevate street foods more and more based on our customers’ individual experiences.

How can couples be sensitive to social distancing and COVID-19 concerns with their catering?

Couples can be more mindful of the spreading of germs through self-serve options and offer more personal servings, single-servings, or even hire a waitstaff to serve food. Older guests may have a separate table to keep the more susceptible guests safe.

What unique catering presentations have you seen or are doing yourself?

We have been doing a lot of Family-style dinners and Sous Vide cooking.

Manhattan Matrimony | A Modern, Timeless & Chic Wedding Editorial

Tuesday, February 15th, 2022

Plan a Manhattan matrimony even Carrie Bradshaw would approve of with the help of timeless and chic wedding design styled by MK Event Boutique and captured by the talented Kimberly Harrell Photography all around the modern, cityside HALL Arts Hotel. Luxurious, artful design a la New York City sophisticate is at your fingertips! Incorporate black and gold accents alongside overflowing gardenesque floral designs by Event Stems Floral and chic, fashion-forward bridal attire from Bridal Boutique complete with veil and accessories to coordinate. This bride model’s off-the-shoulder romance was emphasized by a loose, wavy updo and flawless wedding makeup by the artists at Grand Slam Glam Hair + Makeup who had her simply glowing.

A tablescape with floral runner pouring over its edges conveys an over-the-top vibe that demands to be celebrated with mod black candlesticks, fluted glassware, silky emerald linens and other décor from POSH Couture Rentals. A simplistic, four-tiered cake designed by Sugar Bee Sweets Bakery fits right into the scene surrounded by even more beautiful blooms that complement its minimalistic black, jeweled ribbon details. Pretty and posh as ever, paperie from MK Event Boutique invites guests to the affair in the most artful and articulate way possible, coordinating scripted place cards for familiarity and a cohesive look on the big day! Read on for notes from a few of the creatives that brought this chic wedding shoot to life, plus scroll to the bottom for a look behind the scenes from the videography lens of Alex Adkins Creative. Cheers!

From the planners, Hannah and Annie with MK Event Boutique: “My inspiration for this styled shoot came from multiple different places but the biggest two are a coffee shop that I frequent regularly and Restoration Hardware…modern meets garden meets chic. My vision for the tabletop featured modern details like black matte stone plates, gold and black matte flatware, gold chic chargers, and matte black taper candles mixed in with elegant glass votives. I also wanted to bring in different textures like velvet, cut crystal and stone to add some diversity and pops of dusty rose, ivory and greenery to soften the design.”

From Heidi with Sugar Bee Sweets: “When we saw MK Event Boutique‘s style board, we knew the cake needed to be classic and elegant with a twist of modern. You can never go wrong with a black and white color scheme and we really just wanted to keep the overall look very clean.”

From Reilly with Grand Slam Glam Hair + Makeup: “This hair and makeup look draws inspiration from the vibrant palette of colors in the floral design. We used soft pinks, brick tones, and a subtle green shadow on the lower lash line. Eyeshadow with shimmer adds dimension to the lighter colors in the palette and emphasizes the eye shape. The bride’s updo echoes the timeless elegance of the gown but still feels current. This look is serving modern Cinderella vibes! The key to this look was in the preparation of the hair and using a high-shine finishing spray.”
