These High School Sweethearts had a Beautiful & Intimate Covid Wedding

These high school sweethearts had a beautiful and intimate covid wedding that was truly the sweetest! Skyler and Justin were sure that their end-of-May wedding was going to be their day, and not even COVID-19 was going to alter that for them. After waiting years to even date, you can bet they were not going to push off their wedding! With unstoppable determination and so much love for one another, they decided to hold a small ceremony with only their wedding party and family members in attendance. Although it was not what they had planned, it was, as Skyler said, “beautiful, emotional, intimate and unforgettable,” – all the feelings from the lovely bride!

We can’t help but sing “Going to the Chapel” in our heads when we look through their adorable wedding photos, captured to perfection by Ben Q. Photography. Justin looked oh-so stylish in his navy blue suit paired with a mint tie, and Skyler looked as beautiful as ever in her stunning bridal gown with lace details. The bubble exit was the perfect touch to end this wedding, as it captured their bubbly, genuine personalities and love for one another so well! Scroll to read their story, from dating to planning their covid wedding, and to see all the beautiful photos below. Cheers to Mr. and Mrs. Samuels!

From the bride: “Justin and I met when we were young and began dating our senior year in high school (after years of hearing “why aren’t you dating?”). We were inseparable friends for years and finally decided to give a relationship a shot when we each committed to Texas A&M University.

During the next five years, we walked alongside each other through life’s biggest moments and dreamed of our wedding day surrounded by friends and family. On September 1, 2019, Justin proposed during a weekend trip to Austin, and it was perfect — just the two of us overlooking downtown on the city’s boardwalk.

When COVID-19 first became known at the beginning of 2020, Justin and I were sure that our end-of-May wedding would not be impacted and worked with our planner to make everything perfect. Though confident it wouldn’t affect us, we still decided that if it came to it, we would never want to postpone our marriage — May 31 was to be our wedding day no matter what!

Unfortunately, like so many other couples, the virus did indeed affect our plans. This brought on new, unforeseen stress as we had to make hard choices during a confusing time. Throughout the process, our vendors were thoughtful and encouraging even though they also felt the same stress and disappointment. Ultimately, it was decided that we would still get married on our original date as discussed but postpone our reception to a later time.

So, on May 31, Justin and I held a small ceremony with our wedding party and some family members in attendance. Our venue graciously opened their property to us and our 30 guests, our photographers were there to capture every second, and a live stream set up enabled the rest of our family and friends to celebrate with us from afar. It was truly a whirlwind of a day and not what we had originally planned. But it was beautiful, emotional, intimate, and unforgettable.

Now, Justin and I are so excited to celebrate with everyone at our reception in the coming months. It is then that we will take official wedding party pictures, have our first dance and cake cutting, and dance the night away!”
