SWEET BEGINNINGS: Asante grew up in New York and moved to Texas several years ago, while Robert grew up in Alaska and moved to Texas when he was a child. Introduced by mutual friends at TD Ameritrade, it was a creative mastermind to fix them up! Robert would say Asante asked him out first, but Asante would say that was just a “thank you dinner” for him working on a project for her. Since that dinner, they have been inseparable, navigating from best friends to best friends who are married.
PERFECT PROPOSAL: In January 2014, Robert asked Asante if she wanted to visit Cabo or St. Lucia, and she opted for the latter. Going into the trip, Asante had no idea a proposal was coming. Robert booked an excursion to go on a boat tour of the island that included snorkeling. As they were snorkeling near coral reef, Asante felt a nudge on her arm. She looked over and saw Robert holding a sign that said, “Will You Marry Me?” Next, he pulled out a seashell-shaped box with a beautiful ring inside of it. At that point, she realized he just asked her to marry him underwater! Asante popped out of the water and immediately said, “Yes!”.
SETTING THE SCENE: Asante and Robert wanted their wedding to have a Texas-meets-New York theme, so they went with a neutral palette of white and brown with accents of silver and grey. The theme of their wedding was simple, rustic and modern. But above all fun! They had a popcorn bar, s’mores bar, lawn games and food trucks so guests could have a great time while attending the wedding.
SPECIAL TRADITIONS: There was a Tree Planting Ceremony where Asante and Robert combined soil from New York and Alaska into a white orchid planted in a white vase. The combination of the soils represents a linking of families, traditions and values, symbolizing starting their life from the ground up.
